Blythewood Plant Hire was acquired by Doyle Plc in 1987. In the early years, Blythewood acted as an in house plant department for the other members of Doyle Plc, with only a small percentage of external hire.

Progressively business with external customers has grown and now accounts for 60% of turnover. The plant fleet is progressively modernised as ongoing capital expenditure programme reflecting changes in legislation and operational needs. The business operates from depots in Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage, Peterborough and Warrington.

Blythewood has a wide customer base and whilst it continues to service the plant hire requirements of fellow group subsidiaries, other customers include Utility Companies, Small Builders and DIY customers.
